Minors Under 16 Years Old

Maine state labor laws do not allow minors under the age of 16 to start work until a work permit has been issued.

Minors under 16 years old must obtain a work permit before beginning a job. (includes home-schoolers.)

They must get a new permit every time they begin a new job until they reach 16 years old, even if they work for their parents.

• Fill out your Work Permit Form.
• Take the form to your school superintendent's office.
• After you received the "Approved" stamp, please give us a copy of the form.
